President’s Council Meeting (Robert Larsen)

 

COP 2.46 (Faculty Credentialling) approved with changes – copies at a later time.

 

COP 2.2  (Employment Procedures) Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline is required for SES employees.  All other SES employees will be encouraged to advance their degree.

 

Recently implemented new employee orientation underway and early reviews are good.

 

Buildings to be demolished on campus:  Meat Processing and Marketing Building, Fire Station, Radio / TV Repair Building, the Chemical Storage Building, and the old Brig / Ordinance Building.  The bid expected for asbestos removal and demolition was $200,000.  The winning bid was $106,000.  Asbestos removal expected to take 40 days with demolition and cleanup of sites expected to take another 40 days.

 

Barbara Rusling was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the TSTC Board of Regents.

 

A proposed COP concerning academic freedom.  Copies forthcoming..

 

CampusCruiser will not be free after 12/31/02.  Average cost per student to be $5.46.  This amount was based on an enrollment figure of 13,153 students systemwide.

 

Radioactive waste site on campus being cleaned up.

 

STRONG emphasis was placed on retention and recruiting of students.  Department chairs will be calling on faculty to actively recruit as class schedules permit.

 

Faculty Senate Goals for Coming Year (Input from Faculty Senate Members)

 

Barbara Lease stated that COP 7.30 needs to be changed concerning faculty overload limit (4 hours).  She stated that most technical classes meet 6 hours per week.

 

Robert Larsen read Item J, K, and N of the COP.

 

Robert Larsen stated that the COP has just been approved.  It will stand for the time being.  Any additions or changes that the faculty feels need to be made can be put on the agenda for the next Senate meeting.

 

Dave Thomas stated that faculty salaries are still below other colleges.   Robert Larsen stated that Dr. Segura presented a paper to the budget committee in Austin on just that topic.  Results of the meeting are not known.

 

Campus Email Addresses

 

New email addresses (firstname.lastname) going into effect 01/01/03.  Old email addresses (first initial lastname) being discontinued at that time.  Email addresses can be changed under certain circumstances.  Contact Network Services for more information.

 

Waco Campus Enrollment

 

Waco Campus enrollment up 258.

 

Presidential Search Committee (Ben Matus)

 

The Presidential Search Committee will be interviewing their first candidate tomorrow (September 10th).

Ms. Rylander stated that you don’t need to believe everything you read in the newspaper concerning TSTC and the state budget shortfall.
