Minutes

Attendees:  Pat Markham, Tracy Marshall, Lee Poehls, Aniruddh Hathi, Jean Norwood,  Bob Larsen, Stephen Range, Mike Torres, Brandon Thomas, Steve Betros, Rick Porter, Amy Patrick (sub for George Reamy), Martin Knudsen, Garry Sigler, Frank Gentry, Ruth Gray, Dale Bullock, Mark Long, Tinker Clift, Debi Cisneros, Richard Wheet.

Approval of June Minutes

Approved by the Faculty Senate

President’s Council Meeting (Richard Wheet)

SGA discussed vending machines; inserting information into department packets; book prices; quality of food; and DL fees.

Shelly Sheffield discussed that only certain information will show in Colleague.  When bringing up a record in Colleague, there will be ###-## in the first part of the SSN.  Shelly also encouraged everyone to use the 7 digit code when entering courses.  This is what will be used when we go to online registration.

All 9-month faculty contracts will be at 85%   

Management Council Meeting (Robert Larsen)

Summer management council meeting was held on June 24

Topics addressed:

SOS travel, sexual harassment, HR 202.9, cleaning up language

Staff compensation

Grading System;

Management of Information will be centralized under Systems

COP 7.30 (Faculty Productivity)

New copy on the website

Richard went over all the revisions and asked for a vote on these.

Motion passed to give to the administration with the revisions

Appointment of All Campus Deans and Vice Presidents by Segura (new SOS)

President recommends but Chancellor does the hiring.  Suggest that the Chancellor approve the structure but doesn’t approve hiring. Motion was passed that the above suggestion be approved.  Voted by senate and approved.

Tenure for Faculty Proposal

Qualifications:

P - 10 years
AP - 10 years
MI - 12 years

SI - 15 years

Must have had an expected or exceeds expectations on their faculty evaluation for the previous three years.

NON-RENEWAL OF CONTRACT

For tenured faculty, notice of non-renewal of contract will be given no later than September 1 (or 12 months) of the year preceding the non-renewal of contract.

Tenured faculty members may be dismissed only for good cause. Good cause for dismissal of a faculty member with tenure may include any of the following:

  1. Professional incompetence adversely affecting the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the Institution, students or associates.
  2. Continuing or repeated substantial neglect of professional responsibilities adversely affecting the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the Institution, students or associates.
  3. Moral turpitude adversely affecting to a material and substantial degree the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the Institution, students or associates.
  4. Mental or physical disablement of a continuing nature adversely affecting to a material and substantial degree the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the Institution, students or associates subject to federal law.
  5. Unprofessional conduct, as defined by the Texas Community College Teachers Association's Code of Professional Ethics, adversely affecting to a material and substantial degree the performance of duties or the meeting of responsibilities to the Institution, students or associates.
  6. Bona fide financial exigency or the phasing out of institutional programs requiring reduction of faculty.

Treasurer’s Report

Tinker reported that there is $2839.33 in the account.

New Business

Richard Wheet asked the faculty even though Dr. Ellis is gone would they like to give her a gift. Suggestion of a really nice pen and pencil set at a cost of $400.  The faculty approved after some discussion of the cost.
