The TSTC Waco-Marshall Faculty Senate Executive Board convened for its
regular meeting in Room 105 of Kultgen Automotive Center on September 25, 1997.
President Mike Huneke called the meeting to order at approximately 10:25.
The following Executive Board members were in attendance:
Also present was Robert Gomez, from CSN (Computer Science Networking,
formerly Computer Maintenance Technology).
After the minutes were approved with corrections, the following items
were discussed:
What Can Your Executive Board Do For You?
Mike shared the faculty responses to this question. One example cited was
Manny Avila, an instructor in DDT, who suggested that the Executive Board
help reduce the amount of paperwork involved in the ranking system. Also,
Leonard DeShazo, in the Math department, has applied for Senior Instructor.
Evaluation Meeting (IDEAS Center, 18 September)
According to Mike, Joe Penick wants the Evaluation Committee members to
solicit ideas and input from all employees: faculty, professional staff,
and miscellaneous staff. The instrument will measure the performance of all
Waco Campus employees.
President's Council
This group has examined both the Faculty Compensation Plan and the Faculty
Evaluation Instrument with enthusiasm. The only problem is with the Good
Service Award, interpreted by some as the "give-away," or "living and
breathing" award, which gives raises to those who simply come to work every
day for three years, without offering any meaningful contribution to the
institution. Mike added that the group is now examining the prospect of
adding more criteria to the Good Service Award.
We now have access to copies of the President's Council Minutes.
Parking
The problem persists.
Board of Regents Meeting (Summer).
There are also copies of the minutes of this meeting available, and the Fall
meeting is coming up soon. No one responded to the call to attend the Fall
meeting.
Faculty Senate Materials in IDEAS Center
Mike stated that we need to find out what happened to the Faculty Senate
computer. The file cabinet is there, as well as the printer. Documents
include Campus Operating Policies, the old Faculty Senate letterhead, and
miscellaneous papers. Many ideas were exchanged with regard to the need for
a new letterhead.
Volunteers for Faculty Committees
Having issued several calls for faculty volunteers to serve on committees,
Sandy stated that any needed volunteers from now on will have to be
drafted.
There being no further business, the motion to adjourn was made, seconded,
and passed at approximately 11:55 a. m.
