TSTC-Waco/Marshall Faculty Senate Executive Board
Meeting
24 October 1997
Minutes
The TSTC Waco-Marshall Faculty Senate Executive Board convened for its
regular meeting in the IDEAS Center on October 24, 1997.
President Mike Huneke, who had just returned from a meeting with ACT,
called the meeting to order at approximately 10:20.
The following Executive Board members were in attendance:
President--Mike Huneke
Secretary--Brenda Cornell
Scholarship--Bob Gentry
Personnel--Donna Wishon
Communications--Susan Meyers
Committee on Committees--Sandy Kleypas
Ombudsman--Jim Lillie
Also present was Amy Patrick, ENGL. John Knue served dessert and juice to
the group.
Parking Problem
This issue is still a matter of concern. ACT's proposed solution is to
enforce the rules, resurface the parking lots, see to it that the students
around Patterson Hall are not to be ticketed (quite a problem). There has
been a continual upset of parking fees and non-enforcement of rules.
Committee Appointments
Many of these appointments have been confirmed by letters from Dr. Williams'
office.
Excessive Absence Policy
There was lively discussion concerning this issue at ACT--same complaint
everyone else has--nothing happens, and there is extra work for the
instructor. Mr. Wacker said that the old method (personally handing the EAR
to the student) worked better than anything else tried. The final
suggestion was that it is best to handle the problem within the department,
provided the Administration supports us.
The Executive Board expressed hope that the newly formed committee would
generate a productive plan. The Committee consists of Dawn Khoury, Judy
Pursche, Donna Wishon, John Hendry, and Pat Smith.
Minnie Piper Stevens Award
Mike asked the board to begin thinking of ways to get recommendations for
this award. Although no one really expects to win, the nomination is a
great honor. Someone recalled that last year, the department chairs made
recommendations.
There being no further business, the motion to adjourn was made, seconded,
and passed at approximately 4:30 p.m.
