The Waco-Marshall Faculty Senate Executive Board met in the IDEAS center
on Friday, October 18, 1996. President Barbara Lease called the meeting
to order at approximately 10:12. Among those present were the following
board members:

Parliamentarian--Jerry Hutyra
Secretary--Brenda Cornell
Scholarship Chair--Dave Day
Communications Chair--Terry Conroy
Personnel Committee--Mike Combs
Academics Committee--Fred Khozein
Ombudsman--Jim Lillie
Also present was Sam Cryan, newly re-elected SGA President.
Minutes from the October 11 meeting were accepted with minor corrections.
Although the major item on the agenda concerned the evaluations of the Minnie
Piper Stevens Award nominations, there were a few items of old and new business.
Academics Committee Report: Fred Khozein distributed David Meine's
Ranking Committee Survey (which is to be mailed to the faculty) and instructed
Executive Board members to complete the forms together with their suggestions.
According to Fred, two Campus Operating Policies (COPS), Student Attendance
and Scholastic Probation, have been approved.
Appreciation to Faculty for Dismissal of Students (to vote): Sam
Cryan expressed appreciation to the faculty for letting the students out
in order to vote. Approximately 438 students voted, in favor of keeping
the institution and its mission intact.
Marker for Marlin Beamon (BET): The group voted to purchase a marker
in memory of Marlin Beamon, who recently passed away. Communications Chair
Terry Conroy will call Don Kunze for more information.
Treasurer's Report: Sid Lenoir, Treasurer, stated some good news:
The Faculty Senate Executive Board now has money! We have a travel/expense
budget of $672.99 and an overall budget figure of $4,599.65.
Meet the Candidates: Sam Cryan announced the public forums, "Meet
the Candidates," which will take place next Wednesday night and the
Wednesday following [Oct. 23 and Oct. 30]. Barbara Rusling, Jim Dunnam,
Chet Edwards, and Jay Mathis are featured guests. Sam invited everyone to
attend.
Transferability: On October 17-18, some Department Chairs and faculty
went to Dallas (at the instruction of THCB) to work on a 4-digit course
numbering system for technical courses. since we are being pushed in the
direction of master's degrees in all areas, forthcoming also is the ideas
of transferability and teacher certification.
Faculty Senate Website: According to Terry Conroy, the permanent
website is now up and running. The address is:

The Faculty Senate Secretary can now send Terry the electronic--e-mail--minutes,
and she will change the format to suit the home page. Then the faculty can
call up the minutes via the Faculty Senate website.
Evaluation of Minnie Piper Stevens Award Applications: The group
(minus those who were also nominees and those who nominated applicants)
proceeded to screen applications and rank them in order of excellence. Because
each applicant possessed certain outstanding traits, this task was an extremely
difficult one.
Meeting With Salary Committee Next Week: Next week (October 25) Senior
Instructor John Hendry, Committee Chair, and other members of the Salary
Committee will meet with the Faculty Senate Executive Board.
There being no further business, the motion to adjourn was made, seconded,
and passed at approximately 12:00 p. m.
