Old Business

A. CONSTITUTION UPDATE--continues in process.

B. FACULTY WELFARE COMMITTEE--There is no specific SACS requirement for an ongoing Faculty Welfare Committee--therefore the Faculty Senate Executive Board agreed that special needs that arise would be handled by ad hoc committees appointed by the Faculty Senate President.

C. Faculty Senate President's letter to the faculty--see attachment.

D. The student default rate remains a serious issue. There is some hope for legislative relief in the upcoming session.

E. Faculty Senate office has been secured in the Food Technology Center--a personal computer may be donated through the auspices of two faculty members.

F. President Matus indicated that the Faculty Compensation Plan is still under consideration and study at Systems.

New Business

A. A faculty member made a presentation to the Faculty Senate Executive Committee recommending that the Faculty Senate initiate an ongoing program to survey industry for salary data which would be relevant to the faculty salary compensation system. Such data would reflect such parameters as student graduate starting salaries, the effects of certifications and additional education on salary levels, etc. The Executive Committee responded favorably--with the Faculty Senate President indicating that an ad hoc committee could be established and tasked with that responsibility. There was discussion about the need for survey results by the end of January if the results were to have any bearing on the budget process for FY-99-00.

B. Pat Smith and Homer Jones will be attending the Texas Community College Teachers Association convention in the near future.

C. The next meeting will be on Friday, October 23rd, from 3-5 PM in the Food Technology Center.
