TSTC FACULTY SENATE
EXECUTIVE MEETING
9/11/00
5:25 P.M.
Present: Barbara Lease, Joyce Petter, Bob Larsen, Richard Wheet, Homer Jones, Ed Price, Jeff Looper, Terry Holmberg, Tinker Clift.
Absent: None
Department Senators
The current list of Senators submitted were reviewed. Executive members were encouraged to contact departments without representatives. Nancy Taylor (Secretary of Chemistry) is contacting departments.
Responsibility of Chair and Officers
The constitutional responsibility and duties of each faculty senate officer and chairman was reviewed.
Vacancy of Secretary Position
A memo will be sent to faculty senators about the upcoming election of a faculty senate secretary by the faculty senate.
Vacancy of Personnel and Scholarship Standing Chairs.
Richard Wheet (faculty senate president) appointed Barbara Lease Personnel Chair leaving Budget and Scholarship vacant. The executive committee recommended that final appointment of the two positions be postponed until the faculty senate could make recommendation to the Senate President for who to appoint.
Budget
The Budget Chair (Barbara Lease) and Treasurer (Tinker Clift) recommended two off campus faculty parties at $1000.00 each, $1000.00 in travel money to attend Board of Regent meetings and the balance ($2,000.00) for the faculty senate to decide as needed.
Possible Faculty Senate Scholarships for students was discussed. No decision could be concluded since there is a question as to whether or not State G & E Funds could be used.
Goals of Executive Committee
Increased Faculty participation in faculty senate and TSTC affairs
Improved communication between faculty and the faculty senate.
Increase the importance of the faculty on the campus.
Increase the administrative respect of faculty.
Increase the awareness that faculty are professionals and not just the 8 – 5 mentality.
Waco Campus President
Set up a meeting between Dr. Ellis and the Executive Committee.
State Legislative Representative
James Dunnam, State Representative, has requested a meeting with the faculty senate to discuss what the faculty would like for the college.
The Executive Committee recommended we proceed with the arrangements.
State Agency versus Higher Education.
The Executive Committee recommended we investigate the differences between being a State Agency and an Institute of Higher Learning.
Next Faculty Senate Meeting
Delay the next Faculty Senate meeting until we have a list of 75% of all the departmental representatives.
